Change in Project Leadership: Dig-e-Farm in Experienced Hands

In summer 2025, a significant leadership transition took place within the Dig-e-Farm project: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wilfried Zörner, the original project manager and long-standing expert in renewable energy at the Technical University of Ingolstadt (THI), passed the torch to Prof. Dr.-Ing. Daniel Navarro Gevers.

A Strong Foundation: Prof. Zörner’s Contributions

As project leader, Prof. Zörner played a crucial role in shaping Dig-e-Farm from its inception, laying the groundwork for digitalising agricultural systems with AI-based Agri-PV energy solutions that address the water-energy nexus in Tunisian farming. His deep expertise in renewable energy systems and commitment to international cooperation ensured a robust project launch and established valuable collaborative ties with partners such as LaRINa in Tunisia.

Continuity and Innovation: Prof. Navarro Takes the Helm

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Daniel Navarro Gevers, an experienced professor in Electrical Power Engineering in Renewable Energies at THI, has now assumed leadership of Dig-e-Farm. With his strong background in sustainable energy technologies — including work on power systems and renewable integration — and his active role in applied research, Prof. Navarro is well-positioned to steer Dig-e-Farm into its next phase. His leadership will ensure continuity of the project’s technical excellence while introducing fresh ideas to drive innovation in AI-supported irrigation, Agri-PV deployment, and sustainable farm digitalisation.

Dig-e-Farm: Moving Forward with Confidence

The handover marks a key milestone for the project, reinforcing its trajectory toward impactful research and practical solutions. Built on a solid foundation and guided by dynamic, forward-thinking leadership, Dig-e-Farm is set to strengthen collaboration between research institutions and agricultural stakeholders in Tunisia and Bavaria, advancing sustainable digital farming technologies that optimise water and energy use in agriculture.

The entire Dig-e-Farm team extends heartfelt thanks to Prof. Zörner for his dedication and looks forward to the next chapter under Prof. Navarro’s leadership.
